TYPOGRAPHY:
Similar to the exercise and questions we discussed for logo design will be similar to font type… Spend time on refining the perfect font for your brand!
A great example for how important font type: think of ACDC, i don’t know their music, but i know their font when i see it, even if it doesn’t say ACDC, the font is iconic. Dont stress yourself out finding the next ACDC font.. Just make sure to pick one/create one that resonates with your brand and YOU LOVE because again, it’s a first impression as well as a design asset to your brand. You see t shirts selling with the name of the brand across the chest and only that… Your font type can be used as a stand alone design.
Font type doesn’t have to be custom made, you can find a font online or via photoshop installed fonts or font sites like: (dafont.com) but since it’s going to be a huge asset to your brand you do want it to be unique to YOUR BRAND. Some ways to create a font unique to you is altering standard fonts you may already love or use.
Hiring a graphic designer or illustrator to create a custom font for you.
After you choose the font you will use for your BRAND NAME, you can find an additional font (standard is okay for this one) that you use for other branding needs like invoices, tech packs, letterheads, etc. Example below;
Once you cilitify your fonts you will want to stick with these fonts for cohesive and brand recognition just like you will keep your logo the same.
BRAND COLORS:
Imagine building a SIMS character, you start with the gender, the hair and eye color, and then outfit, accessories, etc. That’s pretty much the initial start is like, building your brand… First you start with your story, name, logo, font and next is brand colors! When i Major brands typically have 1-2 brand colors they use everywhere, all the time. There are tons of studies on the psychology of color. On the effects of it on people. Without going into details, let’s just say that on an average, each color represents an emotion, a state of mind. So before you fixate on ONE color, try to understand the meaning of each.
